When Chris Pike first came to the Employment Resource Centre in 1999, he was computer illiterate and recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. At the Employment Resource Centre, Chris’s employment counsellor, Kim went above and beyond to support him. Kim took what Chris thought was “a totally unworkable work history”, identified his strengths and skills and helped him capitalise on them. Chris attended workshops on résumé and cover letter writing, networking and effective job searching. He says, “Kim was instrumental in making my work history so much more than marketable. She gave me the confidence that I could actually turn my life around!”
And Chris did turn his life around completely. He credits St. Stephen’s and his counsellor Kim for getting him where he is today. Now Chris is a full-time counsellor at Anishnawbe Health Toronto.
“I work at an addictions treatment program and now I refer people to St. Stephen’s," Chris says. "I’m very picky about my referrals, but, with St. Stephen’s, I have both personal and professional experience!”
