Healthy mothers, healthy babies
When Celine Tee arrived in Canada, she came with expectations of a better life. But she wasn’t prepared for how difficult the transition would be, especially with a new baby on the way.
“I didn’t have money or support here for my baby and I was so worried. I started going to a program for pregnant women and new mothers. The weekly workshops taught me about nutrition, breastfeeding, community and financial resources. And St. Stephen’s helped me with clothes and other things I needed for my baby. They also introduced me to a doula through Birth Mark.”
Birth Mark is a non-profit organization that connects vulnerable women to a doula, a non-medical person who assists a woman before, during, or after childbirth, and provides emotional and physical support. Our partnership with Birth Mark helps them develop innovative services for new mothers, like car seat-lending to help bring newborns safely from the hospital, or expanding interpretation to more than 10 languages.
“Thanks to St. Stephen’s, I now feel Canada is my home. I know where to turn to get the help that I need and I gained the confidence I needed to be a successful mom.”
