Living the dream
Nicole Francis had always dreamed of working in the social service sector, helping those who had fallen on hard times. But with youth unemployment in Toronto hovering over 20%, finding that job was difficult. As a single parent with three small children, that task was even more difficult.
At our Employment & Training Centre, Nicole found what she needed: the opportunity for free training and a co-op placement as a receptionist at the John Howard Society.
Nicole’s experience was like so many other young people who walk through our doors. With four different programs tailored for youth, the Centre helps people prepare for employment and join the workforce.
For Nicole, her manager recognized her intelligence and devotion to social justice. Today, she revels in her expanded role at the Society, helping those who have struggled with the criminal justice system. “Thanks so much to the staff at the Employment & Training Centre. I wouldn’t have gotten into this amazing organization without you guys!”
